OrderRing Lite setup

Free pickup SMS on the merchant’s Twilio account. No license key. Nothing is sent to Tillpress.

Install

  1. Download v1.0.5 from the WordPress.org plugin directory (or the zip on /lite/).
  2. Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin → Activate. WooCommerce must be active.
  3. Open OrderRing Lite in the WordPress admin menu (smartphone icon).

There is no Tillpress account, no license key, and no trial. Pickup SMS is free forever.

Connect Twilio

  1. Create a Twilio account and buy or verify a sending number.
  2. In the Twilio Console copy Account SID and Auth Token.
  3. Paste them into OrderRing Lite settings with your From number in E.164 (example: +15055550100).

Optional: set credentials in wp-config.php as ORLT_ACCOUNT_SID, ORLT_AUTH_TOKEN, ORLT_FROM_NUMBER (older ORL_ names still work). You pay Twilio directly. OrderRing adds zero markup.

Test connection

Use Test connection on the settings screen. That is a read-only Twilio API call to confirm SID + token. Then send one SMS to your own phone from an order screen before automating anything.

Inbound webhook (STOP / HELP / START)

Lite handles STOP, HELP, and START when Twilio can reach your site.

  1. Copy the inbound SMS webhook URL shown on the OrderRing Lite settings screen.
  2. In Twilio Console → your number → Messaging → “A message comes in” → paste that URL.
  3. Twilio signs requests. Lite verifies X-Twilio-Signature and stores opt-outs in your WordPress database.

If the site is behind HTTP auth or a firewall that blocks Twilio, STOP will not land.

Enable the checkout consent checkbox (classic checkout and block checkout). OrderRing Lite will not send SMS when consent is required and the customer has not opted in. Consent is stored on the order. Voice (Pro only) does not use the SMS consent box.

Ready for Pickup

  1. Lite registers a Ready for Pickup order status by default.
  2. Map which WooCommerce status means pickup (defaults to that status).
  3. Turn on auto SMS for that status.
  4. Optional: only auto-notify if shipping looks like Local Pickup (off by default).
  5. Create a test order, mark it Ready for Pickup, confirm the text and the order note.

Each order notifies once (order meta). Delete that meta on the order if you need to re-send.

Settings map

  • Account SID / Auth Token / From number — your Twilio account.
  • Test connection — read-only credential check.
  • Pickup status mapping — which status sends the text.
  • Auto SMS — send when the order enters that status.
  • Consent — checkout checkbox; required before SMS if enabled.
  • Webhook URL — paste into Twilio for STOP/HELP/START.

Troubleshooting

No SMS

Test connection first. Confirm From number, destination in E.164, consent on the order, and that the order actually entered the mapped status. Check order notes.

US numbers fail

Finish A2P 10DLC (or verified toll-free) in Twilio. OrderRing does not file that for you.

Duplicate texts after installing Pro

Lite idles when OrderRing Pro is active. Deactivate Lite if you still see doubles.

Upgrading to Pro

Pro reads existing consent and pickup settings. Install OrderRing Pro, activate, finish the setup wizard. Lite steps aside. See OrderRing Pro setup.
