WooCommerce Order-Ready SMS Setup (Twilio)

Disclosure: Tillpress sells OrderRing. This guide describes OrderRing Lite 1.0.5 and OrderRing Pro 1.25.1 as of 2 October 2026. You pay Twilio directly; Tillpress adds no markup. Features can change — check the Lite docs and Pro docs.

Short version: WooCommerce will not text a customer when an order is ready. OrderRing Lite will, using your Twilio account. Pro adds voice, WhatsApp, two-way chat, and a Messages inbox. This is the pickup-SMS path only.

What you need

  • WordPress 6.2+ and WooCommerce 7.0+.
  • Your own Twilio Account SID, Auth Token, and a From number in E.164 (for example +12025550123).
  • If you text US mobiles: A2P 10DLC brand + campaign, or a verified toll-free number, registered in the Twilio Console. OrderRing does not file that for you.

Install Lite (free, no key)

  1. Get OrderRing Lite 1.0.5 from wordpress.org or tillpress.com/lite.
  2. Plugins → Add New → Upload → Activate. WooCommerce must already be active.
  3. Open OrderRing Lite in the admin menu.

Lite has no license, no trial, and no phone-home. It only talks to Twilio when you have credentials and a message actually goes out or comes in.

Connect Twilio and send one test

  1. Paste Account SID, Auth Token, and From number. Save.
  2. Send a test SMS to your own handset from the settings screen. If that fails, stop — the rest of the plugin cannot work until Twilio accepts the number.
  3. Copy the inbound webhook URL and paste it on that number in the Twilio Console (Messaging → a number → A message comes in). Lite and Pro both verify Twilio’s request signature. Unsigned or forged requests get 403.

Consent, then Ready for Pickup

  1. Turn on the checkout consent checkbox (classic and block checkout). Default copy says the texts are transactional, mentions STOP / HELP, and that consent is not a condition of purchase. Edit the wording if you need to; do not remove STOP.
  2. Map which WooCommerce status means Ready for Pickup (Lite registers that status if you use it).
  3. Place a test order, tick consent, mark it Ready for Pickup, and confirm the SMS and the order note.

STOP opts the number out. START re-opts. HELP replies with the help text. Lite will not send to an opted-out number.

When Lite is not enough

Voice, WhatsApp, two-way order chat, bulk reminders, quiet hours, templates, and the Messages inbox are OrderRing Pro 1.25.0. In the Pro zip, all sending — including SMS — needs the 30-day unlicensed window, an active key, or grace. If you install Pro while Lite is active, Lite idles so pickup SMS is not sent twice.

Pro currently arrives after paid checkout. The shop SKUs and the All-Access Suite serve 1.25.1.
